SmartThings Find Network
SmartThings is a platform that allows you to automate and control devices like lights, locks, speakers, cameras, thermostats and garage door openers. It supports devices from a wide range of first and third-party manufacturers, as well as Samsung’s own appliances.
Samsung’s in-house tracking service is called SmartThings Find, and it works across Bluetooth LE and UWB connections to locate missing objects. It’s similar to services such as Tile or Chipolo, but with a few useful advantages.
It also doesn’t require a standalone app or hardware, which can make it easy to integrate with existing home automation systems. You can use SmartThings Find with Galaxy phones, tablets, watches and TVs to locate lost items and find them again.
In addition, the platform is expanding its functionality to include the Galaxy SmartTag, a small device that can be attached to items such as keys or a dog’s collar. The tag can be paired with the SmartThings app and, when found, will display an alert on a phone or tablet with a ringtone that’s programmable to trigger a phone call.
The SmartThings Find Network currently comprises more than 200 million find nodes worldwide, according to Samsung. These are devices that have signed up to the SmartThings Find Network and have opted in to help find other users’ lost Samsung products.
When you lose an item, you can report it as missing in the SmartThings Find section of the SmartThings app. If any other devices nearby have opted into the network, they can then locate your item and send you a notification.
While the service isn’t as robust as Apple’s Find My competitor, it’s still a valuable service that can be incredibly useful. It can help you locate a lost object even if it’s moved since the last time you looked for it.
SmartThings Hub
The SmartThings Hub is Samsung’s flagship smart home product, allowing you to control a range of smart devices across multiple protocols (Zigbee, Wi-Fi and Z-Wave). You can control a wide variety of smart appliances with it, from lights, fans, air conditioning and heating systems to cameras, locks, thermostats and more.
Buying one can be expensive, but there are a number of deals and discounts available to help reduce the price. These can include bundles with other devices, free shipping and even discounts on the SmartThings Hub itself.
In addition to its own accessories, SmartThings also offers a range of other smart devices that can connect to it, including Ring video doorbells, Philips Hue bulbs, Lutron Caseta switches, Ecobee thermostats, TP-Link plugs and switches and other Samsung products. Many of these can be connected to the SmartThings app, where you can set automations and routines that trigger actions based on time, location or status.
It can also be controlled through voice assistants like Alexa and Google Assistant, or via the Smart Button on the device itself. This lets you automate home routines, such as turning on the lights when you arrive and shutting them off when you leave.
You’ll need to have a smart phone and a decent internet connection for the SmartThings Hub to work, as well as a router with 2.4GHz Wi-Fi. Having a mesh router is also recommended, as it can blanket your entire home in coverage, as long as each SmartThings node is connected to it.
The Interview Fastcompany Vp Jaeyeon Smarttag Smartthings comes in white and is designed to be a hub for your smart devices, allowing you to control them all from the same place. Its app has a lot of automation options, and it can be expanded by adding new devices as they come out.
